FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHERE CAN I BUY TICKETS?
Tickets are now available over the counter at The Maltings Taphouse & Bottleshop Newton Abbot and, Vessel Beer Shop Plymouth.
CAN I BUY TICKETS TO THE FESTIVAL ON THE DOOR?
We will not be reserving any tickets to be sold on the door, so if you want to guarantee your entry to the festival, we advise buying your ticket in advance. If we have unsold tickets on the day of the festival, we will make these available on the door.
WHAT DO I GET FOR MY TICKET?
Your advance purchase ticket gets you:
Entry to the session for which you bought a ticket
An exclusive festival glass which you can keep
A programme with all the festival details including brewery information and beer list
Your first drink
WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ARRIVE ?
Your ticket will be scanned from your mobile device – or printout – you will then be given a glass and a programme. You can make your way to the token desks; one is located on the ground floor and another upstairs by the food village and tasting area.
CAN I USE MY TICKET FOR ANY SESSION?
No, you need to buy a ticket for the specific session(s) you want to attend. We have a maximum capacity for each session, so need to be able to control the number of people attending.
HOW DO I PURCHASE BEER AT THE FESTIVAL?
All festival beer and cider must be purchased using tokens, which will be available to buy at the festival. Every beer will cost one token and are served in 1/3 pint measures.
HOW MUCH WILL TOKENS COST?
The price of the beer token is based upon an average of the beer we order for the festival. We will confirm the token cost nearer the time however they will be no more than £2.50 a token and token bundles will be available.
WHY DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR ENTRY AND THEN FOR BEER?
The ticket price covers our costs in producing the festival, e.g., venue hire, insurance, security, equipment hire, etc. The money spent on tokens covers the cost of the beer and cider.
WHAT BEERS ARE ON & WHEN?
Keep a close on all our socials and also the website www.mxvbeerfest.co.uk where we will be announcing and listing all the breweries that will be attending. We will then announce what’s flowing in the week before and this will be available in the programme that you will receive as part of your entry fee.
Our intention is to make sure that every session will have the same beers on tap so that no matter what session you attend you will be guaranteed an opportunity to taste any of the beers at the festival. What we can’t guarantee is whether any beers run out during a specific session!
I DON'T LIKE HOPPY BEERS, WILL THERE BE OTHER STYLES AT THE FESTIVAL?
Yes, we will carefully choose the beers from each brewery to showcase the best of what they do, while ensuring a variety of styles are available, from pales, IPAs and DIPAs, to stouts, porters, barley wines and sours.
And if beer isn’t your thing, we’ll have some lovely ciders and alcohol free beers on tap along with a spirits bar.
WILL THERE BE FOOD AT THE FESTIVAL?
Yes. We will confirm the food vendors nearer the time of the festival.
WILL THERE BE ENTERTAINMENT AT THE FESTIVAL?
Call us old fashioned, but we like to be able to have a chat at a beer festival, so we have decided not to have any live music. We will be playing music throughout, but at an acceptable volume to aid conversation.
There will also be talks and tastings with some of our brewers.
WILL THERE BE MERCH AVAILABLE AT THE FESTIVAL?
Yes.
CAN I USE CREDIT/DEBIT CARD TO PAY FOR TOKENS, FOOD & MERCH?
We are aiming to make this year’s festival cashless.
I'M INTERESTED IN ATTENDING A TASTING. WHAT DO I DO?
Please consult our talks and tastings schedule prior and enquire at the token desk on arrival to book your place. We recommend doing this sooner rather than later at each session as places are limited. ALSO, we plan to have spontaneous pop-up tasting sessions at each session so keep an ear out and an eye on twitter for updates.
WHAT'S GOING ON & WHERE?
The festival will be hosted across two floors so please explore the wonder of Tuckers Maltings and get your bearings. Consult the map in the programme you and if you need any assistance, please look out for somebody in an MXV t-shirt.
WHAT WILL I DRINK IF I'M GLUTEN INTOLERANT?
To ensure we look after you we will have a number of GLUTEN FREE beers available, these will be noted on the beer guide in the programme. There will also be cider, gin, and other spirits available at the festival.
MY GLASS IS DIRTY...
We will have several water taps stationed around the festival for you to rinse as you need.
I WISH I COULD TAKE SOME BEER HOME. CAN I?
We will have plenty of beers available from the Maltings Taphouse & Bottleshop next door to the festival and this will be open throughout the festival and after each session to allow you to fill up an MXV tote bag*(available to purchase on the day) with lovely beers from the breweries attending and many more!
IS THE FESTIVAL ACCESSIBLE FOR THOSE WITH LIMITED MOBILITY?
We want to ensure that the festival is as accessible as possible. However, Tuckers Maltings is a listed, industrial building which does restrict access to certain areas. All our breweries along with welfare facilities will be on the ground floor which is fully accessible however there is no lift up to the first floor where the tasting sessions and some of the food vendors are located. We will have stewards and volunteers to assist with any specific needs however if you do have any questions about accessibility, then please contact us via mxvbeerfest@gmail.com.
CAN KIDS & DOGS COME
Unfortunately, we can’t allow anyone under 18 to attend due to licencing restrictions and generally because they will get pretty bored! Dog-wise, guide dogs are welcome, but the rest of our canine friends have to stay at home. Tuckers Maltings is an old building with lots of nooks and crannies. It will also most likely be a busy, noisy environment and we don’t want any dogs to get trodden on or scared.
WHAT WILL YOU DO IF SOMEONE IS MISBEHAVING OR IS ABUSIVE AT THE FESTIVAL?
We want everyone attending MXV Festival to feel safe, welcome and comfortable, so they can focus on enjoying the beer and having fun. This means we will not tolerate any racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, ableism or any other discriminatory behaviour, or any aggressive, threatening, lewd or predatory behaviour by or towards any of our festival goers, volunteers or visiting brewers.
We will have an event security team present throughout and anyone acting inappropriately will be warned about their behaviour, and if necessary removed from the venue. If you experience or witness any inappropriate behaviour, or if you feel unsafe, please report this to a volunteer or member of staff.
WHEN IS LAST ORDERS?
Last orders are called 10 minutes before the end of each session, and we stop pouring at the end time of each session.
WHERE DO I GO ONCE I'VE LEFT THE FESTIVAL?
Well, where else but the Maltings Taphouse just next door! As well as plenty of cans and bottles to take home we will have our taps running so if you need another top up of your festival glass or a full pint before heading home then make sure you pop in. There’s plenty of space inside and a sizable beer garden (although it may be a bit chilly in November!).
COVID-19 SAFETY PROCEDURES & TICKET FAQs
We’re so excited about putting on a great event for you to enjoy after what has been a tough year and a half. However, there is no getting away from the fact that this is still very much a unique environment we’re operating in, so we want to be upfront with everything we’re doing to make sure we’re all as safe as we can possibly be. Keeping everyone safe is our absolute priority.
SAFETY PROCEDURES
As you might expect, we will be working with Teignbridge District Council and the licensing bodies to make sure we’re operating safely and within the guidelines as they’re released by the Government. These things include:
-
A full COVID-19 risk assessment on our event layout, experience design and operational plans so we can have a safe festival
-
All staff, exhibitors and volunteers will have specific training in order to keep the environment safe
-
All staff, exhibitors and volunteers will make health declarations before entering the festival
-
There is very likely to be some staff in PPE such as on the door, glass handouts, some service areas and cleaning
-
We encourage people to bring PPE as they see fit to do themselves
-
Queuing and directional signage and stewards to ensure everything flows safely
-
Rigorous cleaning and sanitizing throughout and between sessions
-
Sanitizer will be provided throughout the venue
-
We will ensure we have everyone’s contact details for track and trace
-
Advance tickets only, and card payment only
-
We’ll keep this list updated and we’ll be sending everyone an email in the week before the event begins to ensure everyone can enjoy the event safely
NOT RISKING YOUR TICKET
We want to make sure that you know if you buy a ticket, and the worst happens that you will not lose out.
WHAT IF A LOCKDOWN/TIER SYSTEM IS REINSTATED & THE EVENT CAN'T HAPPEN?
If for whatever reason another lockdown or tier system is implemented and the festival gets postponed, your ticket will automatically be rolled on to a rescheduled MXV date.
WHAT IF I FEEL UNSAFE & DON'T WANT TO ATTEND ANYMORE?
If you feel uncomfortable with attending you will be able to transfer you ticket to a future event, as above. These requests must be made to mxvbeerfest@gmail.com by Friday 29th October – two weeks prior to our opening session.
WHAT IF I FEEL ILL & HAVE TO SELF-ISOLATE?
If you are in any way feeling ill with symptoms of coronavirus or have been told to self-isolate you must not, under any circumstances, come to the event. Under these circumstances, please then contact us via mxvbeerfest@gmail.com before the start of your session.
We’d hope that puts everyone’s mind at rest that buying a ticket means you’ll be able to come and enjoy a great festival with us later this year.
